The mooring has been vandalised again, and has subsequently been removed for winter. Sadly it will not be deployed again - the mooring was designed and deployed as a demonstration exercise (which was very successful). Funding for this will end in several months' time.

The Global Environment Unit of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability is offering a training course on "Methods and Applications of Ocean Colour Remote Sensing in African Coastal and Regional Seas" in Mombasa, Kenya from 24 September to 5 October 2007.

This website is intended as a resource for information and data related to harmful algal blooms in the Benguela system. It is a joint effort between the University of Cape Town, Marine and Coastal Management and the Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem (BCLME) programme.

The information on the site is split into three main areas. The real time monitoring section contains information on moorings and monitoring work being carried out in the region, along with real time data where available, and ocean colour satellite imagery for the southern Benguela region. Educational material related to harmful algal blooms, public health and the use of ocean colour can be found in the education section. The research section contains information on publications and reports related to harmful algal blooms and research carried out in the region.
